Today was a chili and football kind of day. What team were you watching? Me I chose my favorite team the Detroit Lions! It was a good game, with a stressful ending, but we pulled a win out of it, and for that I am so grateful.
My mom is usually the chili maker in the house, because I am not usually a big fan, but on game day – well things changed. I made the chili following an AI generated basic chili recipe, and when my mom tasted it later, she added a few additional spices. (Cumin, More Salt) Overall though, I think it came out amazing, and like I said, I usually don’t like chili very much. So I am pretty happy. I have never tackled making chili before because it seems like it needs so many ingredients, however, it really was quite simple, and I threw a little chopped poblano pepper in it as well. I was surprised to find out that it was just one of those things, you can add whatever you like to. I’m actually a little embarrassed that I never tried to make it before!
While the game was on, I was busy needle felting. I spent a good hour and a half making the base/core layer for “Shirley’s” face. {pictured above} I followed a tutorial from a book I bought teaching needle felting – with 12 projects inside. I still haven’t perfected my skills by any means, but I was super happy with the way they eyes, lashes, and brows turned out. The book actually called for a specified type of wool to do the hair, so I just had to make do with the roving wool I had on hand.
I have done 3 sculptures so far in my needle felting journey, and 4 wool paintings. I am learning that the sculptures are much more time consuming and difficult to accomplish for me. Which means they are a challenge, and I like that fact.

Originally, I thought I would prefer wool painting to making the sculptures, but now I am not so sure. Making a sculpture is just so fascinating. Watching it turn from a ball of wool, into something completely unusual and one-of-a-kind is really quite fun. Plus I enjoy making things with my hands.
Today was a good day. But so was yesterday, I spent the afternoon with my mom and we went to a couple different apple orchards nearby. Along with picking out some apples, we got a few donuts, cider, and caramel apples to take home. The sun was out and shining yesterday, so it was a nice afternoon of making some memories.
This weekend was overall a great weekend, memories were made, art was created, and football was on. I’m feeling very optimistic right now about the future, which is something usually hard to come by.
